Wealden and Rother Rural Partnership LEADER Funding
The Project so far. April 2016

The WARR Partnership received over a hundred expressions of interest in first six months of new LEADER funding

The WARR Partnership which was one of the first to launch the new LEADER Funding in October has as at 1st March 2016 seen over 110 expressions of interest and received 15 Outline Applications of which 12 have been invited to submit a Full Application. 4 have progressed through the competitive process to be awarded grants totalling £73,873.47; the WARR Partnership was the joint first group to award grants. The grants have assisted with the purchase of equipment for a new farm shop and café; machinery for a forester to extract timber from environmentally sensitive woodland; mobile sheep handling and performance monitoring to improve flock performance; expansion of a retail business into the production of wholesale pies, pasties, etc., using local produce.

Partnership Chairman Hamish Monro commented, “We are delighted to be one of the first two LEADER Action Groups in England to fund projects in this new round of funding. The four applications have been fully appraised and are all considered to be excellent value for public money, leading to business growth and new jobs that would otherwise have not been created. We look forward to other projects coming forward over the next five years.”

Grants are mainly for capital items such as equipment and are for a maximum 40% of the cost. The minimum grant is £2,500 and the maximum £50,000. The funding is competitive, with a total of approximately £300,000 available each financial year.
